Below is a video of Green Extraction Technologies, LLC performing a root collar excavation. This is a procedure which is done to remove roots that have grown too close to the trunk of the tree. These roots and the trunk grow into each other and this causes the flow of water and nutrients in the trunk to be cut off. If this situation is not taken care of, it could lead to the death of the tree.
We use a tool called an Air Spade. It shoots compressed air at over 1200 miles per hour! This removes the soil from around the base of the tree and exposes the roots without any risk of damage to the root system or the tree itself.
